Find High Ranking Keywords Using Keyword Research Tools

If you’re interested in learning how to find high ranking keyword using keyword research tools, check this out! There are keyword research tools online that can help you find keywords that can be hidden gems, meaning the have both high search volume (monthly Google searches) and moderate to low competition. I will take some work to find these hidden gems, but they’re out there. Now, it might seem tedious and boring, but good Keyword research is essential to building the “base” of your blog posts that will help you get traffic and even may help you make money. The first thing you will want to do before you search keyword volume statistics, is put yourself in the mind of a customer. Ask yourself this, “I was wanted to buy whatever it is I’m promoting on my website, what keywords would I type in Google”. Now, your website and blog may have dozens, even hundreds of different affiliate offers or products/services of your own, that doesn’t really matter at all when it comes down to individual blog posts.

You’re not really promoting your whole website when you write a blog post, but rather you’re promoting a portion of it. With that said, there may be some generic blog posts where you ARE promoting your whole website/bog, but most of your posts will be promoting a topic or topics that’s related to some specific part of your website and the affiliate offers (or your own offers) that correspond with that portion of your website. For example, your website and blog may be about sports, but the specific blog post you’re writing today is about golf. In this example, you would want to put yourself in the shoes of someone who needs golf advice and is interested in buying some type of golf product, such as gold clubs, shoes, balls, etc.

In this case, you would make a list of keywords and keyword phrases that the customer MIGHT type in Google and then you would also want to list several variations of each keyword. For example, if one keyword you come up with is “Golf clubs that help you drive further”, you may also want to include variations like “drivers that will add to your gold game”, “best golf drivers for distance”, or “best gold clubs for drive length”, etc. You will want to list several variations for EACH main keyword and keyword phrase.

Now that we have our search intent or list of “customer keywords” developed, we will want to move on to keyword research. Next, you will want to use an online keyword research tool, such as SEMRush, Ubbersuggest, AHREFS, SurferSEO, Google search volume tool, or many of the free tools that are available online. There are several free and paid keyword research tools online and both have their advantages and disadvantages. We have used SEMRush, AHREFS, and SurferSEO, but we also get a lot of great information from the free Google search volume tool. You can Google “keyword research tools” and find dozens of results and then make an educated choice, depending on your blogging needs and budget.

Most of the paid keyword research tools offer a free trial, so you can check them out and see if they’re worth the monthly subscription price. People searching online are basically looking to either buy things or learn how to do things. Other than, they’re just watching cat videos and playing video games for the most part. We want to target people looking to buy things AND learn how to do new things. Start typing into the keyword research tools and find several variations of keywords for your topic or niche. Now, compare this list with the list of keywords that you generated yourself.

Google trends is another great keyword research tool that can help you find what keywords and topics are trending online, so you can craft your blog post around trending keywords, topics, and niches. As you find trending and emerging keywords on Google trends, add them to your master list of keywords that you will use when you put your blog posts together.

As you look at the list of keywords, you will want to use a tool that shows how difficult it will be for you to RANK for each keyword. AHREFS, Ubbersuggest and many other keyword research tools have this feature. You also will need to know the search volume of the keywords. Now, you want to find the sweet spot between search volume and ranking difficulty. If it’s a very competitive keyword such as “Best New Car”, the search volume may be great, but it may be extremely difficult to rank for this keyword because the top automobile websites that have billions of dollars to invest will be ranking for that keyword. Don’t give up! You just need to keep using the keyword research tools and find those “hidden gems”, that have a moderate or high search volume (number of monthly searches for that keyword) and a moderate or low competition rating. This means that you’ll have a good chance of ranking for that keyword AND it has a high search volume, meaning it has the potential to drive a lot of traffic.

Once you have your list of high ranking keywords that are hidden gems, you’ll want to start using the “Blogging as a business” method to write your blog post around those high ranking keywords that have moderate to low competition.
